I’ve recently been on a short vacation on Royal Caribbean’s Ovation of the Seas cruise line with my family and can I just say, the four days spent on the cruise was the most relaxed that I’ve been in a while. As this wasn’t my first time on a Royal Caribbean’s cruise line, I sort of knew what to expect when it comes to the standard of service and the type of facilities and entertainment that they have on board. But nonetheless, I had such a wonderful time on board the Ovation of the Seas.
As I didn’t managed to travel last year due to my busy schedule, I was beyond excited about this short getaway. It did felt like forever since I went on vacation. There were so many facilities on board for guests to enjoy. There were three different sections of swimming pools for guests to choose from – one section was more for the kids as there were a mini water playground for them to play on as well as a couple of shallow pools, then there was an indoor pool with an indoor hot tub for guests who wanted to take a dip but didn’t want to be out in the scorching hot sun and lastly there was the Solarium, which is mainly for adults and there is sort of like a fountain-like pool along with a couple of hot tubs. The Solarium is sort of like a kids-free zone and its the place where I’m at most of the time.
There were other facilities like the FlowRider which is a surfing simulator where you can show off your (lack of) surfing and boogie boarding skills. This is one of the places where my sister and I absolutely love to hang out at. We just love watching people attempt to stand on the board as long as they possibly can and laugh at them when they were flailing their hands around trying to keep their balance but honestly, it’s not like we could do better. The instructors at the FlowRider were so good. I mean they have to be because they’re instructors! And can I just say that some of the instructors were pretty cute too. I actually didn’t mind sitting under the hot sun just watching them (and the other guests) wishing I could go up to them and chat about their jobs. Other than the FlowRider, there was also an iFly, which is a skydiving simulator. This was the one thing I wanted to try out when I was on board the ship but unfortunately I didn’t manage to due to the large amounts of people. There was also a rock climbing wall too.
For the people who doesn’t like spending long hours in the sun, there are also other indoor activities like bumper cars, roller skating, basketball games, table tennis, air hockey etc. I mean the list goes on and on. There is so many activities for you to choose from that you can NEVER be bored on the ship. The only downside is that there are always a long line at every attraction. There is also a fitness center where you can sign up for fitness classes and some of them are even free! For those people who are not into physical activities, why not treat yourself to a little pampering with the spa on board.
During the day the attractions that guests can enjoy are more outdoorsy and sporty. But when evening comes, that when the show starts. On the Ovation of the Seas, there are production shows every single night and every night, there are different types of shows for guests to enjoy so you don’t have to worry about seeing the same show twice! There is also a wide variety of stage shows for guests to enjoy from musicals to comedy shows to dance performances etc. The performers were really amazing and captivating and it feels like a production show you’ll see on broadway. On the last night, there was this grand performance filled with music, singing, dancing and showgirls. Going to these shows are one of my favorite things to do when I’m on board the ship. I went to every single show that they have and I recommend it to people who go on board a Royal Caribbean cruise line to watch the stage performances that they have. The best part is that they have two showings of each show every night so you don’t have to worry about missing the show because of dinner.
Speaking about dinner, HOLY MOTHER OF GOD the food was amazing! Having cruised with Royal Caribbean once before this, I knew the standard of the food served on board but it still never fails to impress me. There is so much food on board for you to choose from and you will NEVER EVER go hungry when you’re on the ship. There are a couple of main dining areas for guests to choose from though there are some that you have to pay for. There are also cafés that serves little snacks if you’re feeling a little peckish during the day but you’re not too keen on eating a big meal. There is even a hotdog stand that serves different styles and types of hotdog and also an ice cream bar on the pool deck for guests who wants something nice and cold to help cool them off in the heat. There are also countless numbers of bars on the ship and the best part is that there are package deals that you can sign where you only have to pay a certain amount of money to get unlimited number of drinks during your stay on the cruise.
One of the main attraction of the Ovation of the Seas is the Bionic Bar where a robot help make a drink of your choice and selection. It was actually pretty cool seeing a robot as a bartender concocting a cocktail. Here’s a little tip for those people who are going on or who are planning on going on a Royal Caribbean cruise line, save some stomach space for dinner! The breakfasts and lunches are great and they have a wide selection to choose from but the dinners are always the best. For dinner, guests can expect a fine dining experience with amazing three course dinners that leaves you full and satisfied when you leave the restaurant. On this particular cruise that I was on, there were both Asian and Western styled dishes for you to choose from, depending on what you are craving for on that day. But I got to admit that I much prefer the fine dining on the previous cruise- Mariner of the Seas- as compared to this.
After your dinner, you can either walk around on the upper decks to enjoy the cool sea breeze or catch a show or even do a little shopping for all the shopaholics out there who needs a little retail therapy. There are many different items like bags, accessories, clothes, souvenirs, sweets, liquor etc that are sold on board. Sometimes, there are even sales going on and this is the time where people tend to go overboard and grab everything they could get their hands on. There are even a couple of luxury shops like Michael Kors, Kate Spade and Cartier if you are willing to spend the money.
On board the Ovation of the Seas, there is always non-stop entertainment all day that caters to different people of different age groups so it doesn’t matter how old you are because there is always something for you to do on board. I really did have an amazing time and I wished I had more time on board to try out more of the attractions and facilities. Obviously, I would really love to go on another Royal Caribbean cruise line and I’ll be eagerly waiting for my next adventure.
